Artist Statement

“I follow the only function an object holds already, my only role is to elaborate a dispute in its form and function,” says artist. He repurposes domestic objects, urging a redesign to critique the repetitive nature of human life, likening humans to machines. “It has become not just a culture of everyday life but also our wish to function like machines,” he states, often referencing Renaissance humanism in his debates.

Tayyab emphasizes the duty of humanity to share knowledge and ideas, lamenting that discussions on practical ethics are often dismissed as utopian fantasies. He argues that humans design their lives like objects, repeating a single function daily. In his solo show “Contrapposto,” he remarked, “My part in this scenario is to upset the traditional functionalities of objects.” He views objects as symbols of relaxed symmetry, yet charged with non-symmetrical, non-fictional functions. “I work in between, recording the ephemeral transition that separates an object from its permanent functionality,” he explains.

In the fast-paced modern age, where technology changes life rapidly, Tayyab critiques this progress in his work “Human Exelixi.” He argues, “Our technological progress has focused solely on providing comfort and convenience to humans while destroying and disturbing the lives and habitats of all other creatures. Moreover, it has been scientifically proven to destroy our very climate.”
